Confronting Us
ABOUT CONFRONTING US
Confronting Us is the first track in a 3-song EP titled Branches. The story arc of the EP begins with a relationship ending, followed by a moment of self-reflection, and ending with a sense of renewal.
Confronting Us shares with the listener the moments before a break-up, when both parties in the relationship know they are growing apart, and ask themselves how long it will take before they actually confront what is happening.
“And the fear comes and goes,
walk the tight rope and ignore”
How many times have you caught yourself self-censoring just to avoid conflict?
“Confronting us and our love
and if we’ve finally had enough
our leaves all shriveled up”
Like leaves shriveling up and dying on an everlasting tree of life, is our love and time together coming to an end?
“And how long can we keep bending
until we admit we’re growing differently?
Like two branches on the vine…”
It’s amazing how you can think you’re on the same path, only to look back and realize you’re growing differently, like two branches on a vine growing in separate directions.
“Are we reaching for separate doors?
Do you know my touch anymore?”
Sometimes what was once familiar and comforting becomes foreign.
OTHER INTERESTING NOTES
Confronting Us (as well as whole EP) was co-produced by me (Mike Bass), Alara, and Steven LaFashia. This was my first time working with other producers, and enjoyed the process very much!
The Branches EP was recorded at Retro City Studios in Philadelphia, PA.
Confronting Us blends more into the dream pop genre, which is new for me. The same goes for the EP as a whole, which has dream pop, indie folk, and even indie pop elements.

I don’t know if I ever believed we would make it.
I never knew all the rules I saw, I could break them.
How do you get in my mind every time, every time, every time?
I don’t know if we’re just good at faking,
but when I close my eyes,
and you won’t even try…
And the fear comes and goes,
walk the tight rope and ignore…
Confronting us
It’s just too much
confronting us
Confronting us and our love
and if we’ve finally seen enough
our leaves all shriveled up.
And how long can we keep bending
until we admit we’re growing differently?
Like two branches on the vine, on the vine, on the vine, on the vine.
And the fear comes and goes,
walk the tight rope and ignore
Confronting us
It’s just too much
confronting us
Are we reaching for separate doors?
Do you know my touch anymore?
Confronting us
It’s just too much
confronting us
Confronting us and our love
and if we’ve finally had enough
our dreams all shriveled up
